The
Dewing Building is a most unusual structure that was a much
needed improvement along N. Burdick Street. The gothic business
block has a very narrow frontage along W. Michigan but fills
the entire block along N. Burdick from W. Michigan to Water
Street.
Erected
in 1928, the block replaced a series of old rambling structure
known as 'Asbestos Row'. Many of the old wooden buildings dated
back to Kalamazoo's pioneer days and were considered eyesores.
The
clean modern Dewing Building would become a preferred address.
It housed the Chamber of Commerce for a number of years.
