Rufus Tyler was the co-owner of a lumber planing mill when he built this Italianate home in 1872. It cost $1200. In 1884 Tyler sold the home to Hiram Brooks Miller who would remain until 1925.

The home is an unusual Italianate with a gabled roofline instead of a flat one.
