The
Chappel-Stewart house was shockingly modern when it was finished
in 1880. It was one of Kalamazoo's first Queen Anne styled homes.
The style is distinguished by its Tudor chimmneys, the treatment
of the gabled ends and siding, the porches, and elaborate rooflines.
The Chappel-Stewart house is a fine example of such.
It
was occupied by the family of Allen Chappel until 1896 when
Nathaniel Stewart moved in. The home would remain in his family
until the 1960's.
