William Wood had this splendid Italian villa built in 1877-78. Local contractor Frederick Bush set a standard for excellence in its construction. Wood would occupy the home until 1905 when William E. Upjohn moved in. Upjohn was president of the Upjohn Company. He later married his neighbor Carrie Gilmore. She would occupy the home until the late 1950's.
