Prehaps
Kalamazoo's most distinguished landmark is the State
Hospital Water Tower. This Queen Anne structure is one
of the last remaining 'old' State Hospital buildings left. Its
castle-like design does not hint at is utilitarian purpose.
In
1909 hoses were strung from the Water Tower 2 miles to the burning
Burdick Hotel. The Water Tower itself has caught fire in 1937
and 1945. It was restored in the mid-1970's.
