State Hospital Water Tower

Prehaps Kalamazoo's most distinguished landmark is the State Hospital Water Tower. This Queen Anne structure is one of the last remaining 'old' State Hospital buildings left. Its castle-like design does not hint at is utilitarian purpose.

In 1909 hoses were strung from the Water Tower 2 miles to the burning Burdick Hotel. The Water Tower itself has caught fire in 1937 and 1945. It was restored in the mid-1970's.
