Allen Potter House

In 1854 Orson Fowler published a book titled Home for All. In it he promoted the benefits of building 'octagon' shaped homes.

Early pioneer Allen Potter followed this advice and built this stately villa on the outskirts of town. The man who would become Kalamazoo's first mayor lived here until 1870 when he moved into a new Italianate villa on South Street.
